The Greenway project involves a number of local authorities and public institutions
These include; Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council, DCU, DIT and DAA, combining to make up to 1000 properties available to demonstrate how the Glen Dimplex Quantum space and water heating system can be used to remotely switch on and off a distributed population of energy stores in response to an operational command.
Ireland has among the highest penetration of intermittent renewables globally (18% of electricity production in 2012.)
This project seeks to demonstrate how demand response can facilitate even greater levels of renewables (40% target for 2020). The impact on the grid is being analysed under the Eirgrid DS3 programme.
